Mia Koden
Mia Koden aka Sancha Ndeko (she/her) is a South London-based South Sudanese and British music producer and DJ who also works across heritage, culture, and community projects.
Initially growing up in Ghana and Nigeria, she was immersed in her parents’ lively stash of music from across the African continent and beyond. Her formative years back in the UK were filled with frequent soundsystem pilgrimages to spaces where roots reggae, drum & bass, and dubstep could be heard. At some point during her London university days, two rusty Technics 1210s arrived, setting the stage for what would become a decade-long journey of co-creating and championing underground electronic music. Over the years, she has built an arsenal of records traversing many sonic corners of the world.
Having made serious waves as one half of the highly acclaimed duo Sicaria Sound, known for their penchant for forward-thinking 140BPM sounds, her new alias brings the same infectious energy and bass-and-percussion-heavy sensibilities—now with her own exciting deviations. This next chapter embraces a genreless and BPMless approach while building momentum as a forward-thinking producer and DJ across low-end electronic territories and beyond.
Early 2022 saw a highly positive reception to her inaugural multi-genre, 100% productions mix series, Made By Mia Koden. Then, intentionally laying low for the remainder of the year while working in Sicaria Sound—bar a handful of select, headsy club performances—2023 marked her time to step things up a notch.
Now, her much-anticipated debut EP is about to land. Hot on its heels, an Arts Council-backed project exploring sound and identity within the African diaspora is already in the works, featuring a follow-up collaborative EP, documentary, and exhibition. And rest assured, there’s much more in the pipeline for the years ahead. Expect a range of carefully crafted content and innovative sets sprinkled with secret weapons as she steps forth.
